NUC Scraps Pre-degrees And Diplomas In Universities
Its the season of scrapping. Few days after we reported that JAMB has scrapped the use of scratch cards, another report making News headlines is the scrapping of Pre-degrees and Diploma programmes in Universities.
The National Universities Commission instructed that Universities should leave such programmes for Polytechnics and focus on producing more human capital through undergraduate, part-time and post-graduate courses.
The Executive secretary of the NUC, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed made this order at a meeting held between October 10 and 12 with Vice-chancellors of the 143 universities in the country.
Prof. Abubakar also directed the research directorate of the NUC be renewed as this will facilitate research activities in universities and ensure the relevance of their outputs.
NUC stated that the accreditation of part-time programmes would ensure that they are of the same quality as the full-time programmes, thereby restoring public confidence in them.
