Federal Government Declares Tuesday Public Holiday to Celebrate Democracy day
The Federal government of Nigeria has announced Tuesday, May 29 as a public holiday to mark the 2018 democracy day celebration in Nigeria.
The public holiday was declared by the minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau on Friday in Abuja on behalf of the Federal Government.
Mr. Dambazau congratulated Nigerians on the occasion and urged citizens to support the government in its pledge to building a peaceful and greater nation.
Democracy day is celebrated on May 29 of every year in Nigeria to mark the return of civilian rule in the country. This began when former president Olusegun Obasanjo was elected into office in 1999 ending many years of military rule that started in 1966 with a brief interruption from 1979 to 1983.
